Summary
Portrait miniature, watercolour on ivory, Anna Vernon, Lady Berwick (1744-1797), by Jeremiah Meyer, RA (Tübigen 1735 – Kew 1789), c. 1768. An oval head and shoulders portrait of a young woman, turned to the right, wearing a white dress and lace tippet, with brown eyes, high powdered hair and pale complexion. Against a plain grey background. Mounted in a plain gilt metal frame. The attribution to Jeremiah Meyer is provided by Peter Knaus (author of the forthcoming catalogue raisonné on Jeremiah Meyer, University Press Tübingen). Mr Knaus identified the model (a drawing) for this miniature in Meyer's estate (British Museum, London, 1901,1014.9.33). The miniature was most likely produced around 1768 when the sitter married Noel Hill (depicted in NT 609190, by Meyer). Anna Vernon was the daughter of Henry Vernon and Lady Henrietta Wentworth and was the granddaughter of the Earl of Stafford. She married Noel Hill, 1st Baron Berwick of Attingham, son of Thomas Hill and Susanna Maria Noel, on 17 November 1768 at St. George's Church, St. George Street, Hanover Square, London, England. She died on 23 March 1797. She was buried at Manfredonia, Italy. Her will was probated on 22 February 1798.
