Summary
Circular tambourine of animal skin (deer?) with a wooden frame painted navy blue with red and yellow line borders, fitted with round brass cymbals. Surface painted in oils, a young peasant girl asleep in snow, in the background three small perriots slide down stair banisters. Handwritten dedication in blue ink on the tambourine reads: a Mlle Delandre de tout coeur son ami d'exil A Willette. Made in France circa 1800.
Provenance
Believed to be 3rd Lord Berwick collection: William Noel-Hill, 3rd Baron Berwick (1773-1842). By descent bequeathed to the National Trust with the estate, house and contents of Attingham by Thomas Henry Noel-Hill, 8th Baron Berwick (1877-1947) on 15th May 1953.
