Summary
A mahogany chair, one of a set of seven mahogany chairs, English, circa 1790. The standard chairs NT 608303.1.1 - .1.6, the open armchair NT 608303.2. This standard chair with a moulded shield-shaped back centred by an elaborate pierced ovoid splat, carved with a medallion centred by a patera, and with bellflowers, foliated scrolls and bull-rushes above a fan. The seat bowed and upholstered in dark green velvet fixed with brass studs. On moulded and tapering square-section front legs and rectangular-section outswept rear legs, joined by an 'H'-shaped stretcher and a higher rear stretcher.
