Summary
A walnut and marquetry commode, Northern Italian, circa 1790, in the manner of Giuseppe Maggiolini (1738 - 1814). The rectangular top inlaid with an octagonal reserve with a reclining woman and a putto within outer crossbanding and a parquetry border. Fitted with three drawers, the uppermost with two reserves of foliate marquetry. The lower pair of drawers quarter-veneered, and with a central oval marquetry roundel of foliated scrolls. Fitted with probably later brass handles with oval backplates pressed with urns. The uprights inlaid with reserves of arabesque marquetry against a rosewood ground, and terminating in tapering square-section feet. The marquetry incorporating acanthus, scrolls, urns and satyrs.

Attingham collection; bequeathed to the National Trust with the estate, house and contents of Attingham by Thomas Henry Noel-Hill, 8th Baron Berwick (1877-1947) on 15th May 1953.
