Summary
One of a pair of marquetry side tables, Northern Italian, probably Lombardy, late 18th/early 19th century. Having a rectangular top painted to imitate green marble above friezes with tablet centres and reserves of geometric parquetry, quatrefoils and lunettes in various veneers. The friezes with slender moulding to their top and bottom edges. Raised on four square-section tapering legs with waisted feet and topped by mouldings. The legs crossbanded and inlaid with rosettes, husks and ribands.
Provenance
Listed in the Inventory taken at Attingham Park in 1861 (p. 86) and in the Probate Inventory taken there in 1947 as an 'heirloom' (p. 9). Attingham collection; bequeathed to the National Trust with the estate, house and partial contents of Attingham by Thomas Henry Noel-Hill, 8th Baron Berwick (1877-1947) and transferred to the National Trust on 15th May 1953.
