Summary
A very large giltwood-framed pier glass, Genoa, possibly by Henry Thomas [Enrico] Peters (1793-1852), circa 1825 - 1830. Standing behind a giltwood and rosewood pier table base NT 608113.1, its marble top NT 608113.2. Topped by a carved cornice above a frieze decorated with gesso anthemia and palmettes linked by foliated scrolls and sprays. The mirror frame reeded.
Provenance
Believed to be 3rd Lord Berwick collection: William Noel-Hill, 3rd Baron Berwick (1773 - 1842). Listed in the Inventory taken at Attingham Park in 1861 (p. 95); in the Inventory taken in 1913 (p. 72); listed as an 'heirloom' in the Probate Valuation taken in 1947 (p. 8). By descent bequeathed to the National Trust with the estate, house and partial contents of Attingham by Thomas Henry Noel-Hill, 8th Baron Berwick (1877 - 1947) and transferred to the National Trust on 15th May 1953.
