Summary
Blue glazed earthenware election jug. Bulbous body, slightly tapering neck, moulded spout and strap side handle. Gilt line border to inscription and painted with gilt coat of arms for Shropshire in crowned 'CHURCH QUEEN and CONSTITUTION' roundel. The jug commemorates the successful restoration of twelve Conservative members to the County of Salop in the Midsummer General Election of 1841. Gilt inscription reads: 'All Frields round the Wrekin. Right Hon;Lord Hill, Commanding in Chief. Sir E.W.C.R.Owen, Admiral of the White...P.T.O.' Made and signed by T. Wildig of Shrewsbury, 1841

Purchased at Sotheby's Billingshurst at the 'British Folk Art' sale, lot no.1163. Attingham collection; bequeathed to the National Trust by Edith Teresa Hulton, Lady Berwick (1890-1972).
