Summary
Buff coloured glazed eathenware election jug. Squat body, wide neck and moulded spout. Foliate scroll handle highlighted in gilt. Gilt inscriptions with Shropshire coat of arms and coronet. The jug records the defeat for the Conservatives in 1836. Gilt inscriptons read: 'The Lord Lieutenant of the County, the Earl of Powis Aged 82. Church King and Constitution When bad men Conspire, the good must unite. Eldon. 'Be Just and fear not. Let all the ends thou aimst at, Be thy Country's - thy God's - and Truths' - Shakespeare. 1836 In Commemoration of the Twelve Conservatives of Shropshire. Representatives of a free and an Intelligent People.' .....then lists names....continues 'All friends round the Wrekin'. Salopian Journal. Corn Market, Commenced January 1794.
