Summary
A woman's plastron made from machine-embroidered white cotton lace. The white cotton lace, which is ruched, decorated with a small floral motif and has a scalloped edge has been used in three separate layers to create the plastron. The bottom layer creates the necktie and long bib and is embellished centre front with a layer of black silk satin which has nine decorative black glass buttons. Two successive layers of ruched cotton lace have been added to the upper bib, each also with a central layer of black silk satin and a further four decorative black glass buttons. The stitching on the underside of the plastron suggests that it was home-made or altered at some stage historically. Internally, the plastron is unlined and has no fastenings.
