Summary
A woman's bodice, made from black grosgrain silk taffeta. The bodice is decorated around both the neckline and on the puffed sleeve ends with cotton net which is embroidered with a design of spots and flowers with a scalloped edge. The net has insertion of black velvet silk ribbon, used for gathering in both the neckline and sleeves to fit. Internally, the bodice is fully lined in white glazed cotton, with three boning strips and eight hooks and eyes for fastening centre back, intact. A handwritten marking on an inner seam of the bodice reads, "McDonald-Tyler, Circa 1850", the donor.
