Summary
A woman's skirt, part of a dress, made from rust-coloured silk overlaid with black machine embroidered Chantilly-style cotton lace. The silk skirt is trimmed at the front hem with a pinked gathered strip. There is a wide silk satin ribbon running down proper left front, it is attached to the skirt at knee height and was also attached at the waist. Cream ribbed silk and cotton waistband, fastening centre back with two metal hooks and eyes. The skirt is fully lined in rust cotton sateen. The back of the skirt can be gathered up horizontally across the hip on two tapes. The lower part of the back lining is stiffened with cream Tarlatan. There is a closely pleated silk frill around the bottom of the lining; it is lined with a fine, dressed cotton muslin. A handwritten marking on the inner waistband of the skirt reads, "Hamilton, Donaghadee", the donor.
