Summary
A woman's bodice, part of a dress, made from black silk velvet. The bodice has a stand collar, with the front facings decorated with black embroidered silk net in a floral pattern. The half-length sleeves are undecorated, although some remaining threads suggest that they were originally trimmed with matching silk net. The bodice is fully lined in black silk taffeta, with a black cotton twill internal waist tie, seven boning strips and two self-covered buttons for fastening centre front, intact. A maker's stamp on the inner waist tie reads, "Robes, Manteaux, Modes, Mrs Burke, 54 Dawson Street, 54".
