Summary
An oak and iron bound strong box, French, early 16th century. Raised on an associated wrought iron stand, English, mid 18th century. The rectangular box with hinged lid and decorative iron strapwork retaining traces of what is probably the original paint decoration and with iron handles to the sides and the top. The lock probably replaced The stand, probably originally with a marble top, with scroll work end supports tied by a stretcher.
