State bed tester covered in faded green velvet, with coronet and arms of Princess Victoria.Tester - covered with modern green velvet; scrolled cresting; cornice hung with five rows of tassled fringes; underside of tester has a shaped panel and escallop shells in corners-dimensions 1005mm x 2025mm x 2270mm.
Full description
An early inventory for the house (before it was passed to the National Trust) notes the bed had been acquired 'from Houghton Hall, soffit and backboard original'. A later guidebook noted, "from a house in the Eastern counties, by Kent, cornice and upholstery is partly reproduced".
