Summary
Wall paintings on East wall of the Central Hall. Wall paintings featuring Chevy Chase, Eminent Northumbrians, Flower paintings, Inscriptions and decorated skirting. William Bell Scott (1811-1890) was commissioned by Pauline and Walter Trevelyan in 1856 to decorate the Central Hall, built by John Dobson in 1853-4 when the Courtyard was roofed over. He decorated the majority of the tiers, in particular Chevy Chase which was completed in 1868. Additional work on the Eminent Northumbrians frieze, birds and trees was undertaken by Pauline Trevelyan. Flower paintings on the piers were painted by William Bell Scott, Laura Capel Lofft, Emilia Pattison (née Strong) and Emma Collingwood (née Isaac, also known as Edith Mary Isaac).
