Full description
Part of the cargo of tea, gold and porcelain on the Dutch East Indiaman, the 'Geldermalsen', which was wrecked on an uncharted shoal on the Admiral Stellingwerf reef, off Bintan Island, near Indonesia, in January 1752. The contents were salvaged and auctioned by Christie's Amsterdam, 28 April to 2 May, 1986. It was given to Wallington by Mrs. Sheila Pettit, a former Historic Building Representative/curator responsible for Wallington.
Provenance
Part of a cargo of the Dutch East Indiaman 'Geldermalsen' which was wrecked on an uncharted shoal in January 1752. These pieces along with many more lay in the wreck, in 90 feet of water until salvaged in 1986. Gift from Mrs Sheila Pettit
