Summary
Tea-canister and cover and coffee-cup, porcelain, moulded in the form of a lotus flower and bud, made in Jingdezhen, Jiangxi province, China, 1730-1750; decorated in overglaze enamels, pink, green, turquoise and iron-red (famille rose palette), painted to imitate the veins on the petals and leaves.
Full description
This partial group of teawares takes full advantage of the new palette of famille rose enamels as the shaded opaque pinks were only introduced around 1723-25. The pattern was popular for export wares, inspired by examples in more traditional forms associated with the Chinese domestic market.
