Summary
Jars and covers, two, porcelain, of high-shouldered ovoid shape, with straight neck, domed cover with everted rim and a bijin or female finial, made in Arita, Japan, c, 1710-1730; decorated in underglaze blue, the jar with four panels of flower-filled vases, against a stylised diaper ground, the shoulders with four cloud scroll collars with dense foliage of peonies, the neck with an angular lappet motif, cover with similar details, the figural final with a kimono with wisteria pattern.

This is a later example of a Japanese garniture, which originally included three jars and two cylindrical beaker vases to sit on a cupboard, intended for the Dutch market, but at some date arrived in England later in the eighteenth or even the nineteenth century.
