Summary
A set of four bottle vases, porcelain, of carafe shape with globular bases and flaring trumpet neck, made in Jingdezhen, Jiangxi province; China, 1700-1715; decorated in underglaze cobalt blue (painted and powdered); with two leaf shaped reserves on the neck with asters or other plants and three ogival reserves on the base with objects, including vases with peacock feathers and plant-pots from the Hundred Antiquities (Baogu) against a powdered blue ground.
Full description
At Wallington, these vases were displayed above several of the doors in the Saloon in the 19th century, appearing in a drawing (see NT582347) and later in photographs, as was the fashion in the 18th century.
