Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Walter McGeough Bond (1790 - 1866) by Sir Francis Grant PRA (Kilgraston 1803 - Melton Mowbray 1878). A half-length portrait of an elderly man with white beard, three quarter to right, wearing a black coat. Walter McGeough Bond was born on 14 February 1790. He was the son of Joshua McGeough and Anne Johnstone. A settlement for the marriage between him and Mary Isabella Joy was made on 19 January 1826. He married, secondly, Anne Smyth, daughter of Ralph Smyth and Anna Maria Staples, in 1830. Walter McGeough Bond was baptised with the name of Walter McGeough. He graduated from Trinity College, Dublin University, Dublin, County Dublin, Ireland, in 1811 with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.).He held the office of High Sheriff of County Armagh in 1819. He was a practising Barrister-at-Iaw. On 5 November 1824 his name was legally changed to Walter McGeough Bond by Royal Licence.
