Summary
Plaster sculpture, Hunters returning from a Boar Hunt (after engraving by Bernard de Montfaucon after Pietro Santi Bartoli) by Benjamin Carter (Datchet 1719 - Datchet 1766), circa 1761. The fifth of eight bas relief panels, representing hunters returning from a boar hunt. Subject matter taken from French engraving by Montfaucon published in 1719 (which are themselves taken from the etchings by Pietro Santo Bartoli of the 1600s). Had been painted terracotta but were returned to natural colour when the Pantheon was restored in the 1908s.
