Summary
Sculpture, marble, Alexander the Great (356 – 323 BC). A white marble bust of Alexander the Great with drapery made up of red and green marble, on round socle, on marble plinth. The group of four probably acquired in 1740s. Free copy of bust, known as Alexander, in Capitoline Museum, Rome. Or adapted from Dying Alexander bust in Uffizi Gallery, Florence (Haskell and Penny, p.134, no.2). F.M. Piper's drawing of 1779 shows bust in a round niche in the Venetain Seat (demolished in the 1790s), Woodbridge p.16.
