Oil painting on canvas, Poppies, British School, previously attributed to John Constable, RA (East Bergholt 1776 – London 1837), circa 1814. A study showing an arrangement of large petalled red poppies, in a moulded frame. One of the last Sir John Heathcoat Amory's 'Old Masters' collection.
Provenance
Collection of artist William Powell Frith RA (Ripon 1819 – London 1909); Anon. sale, Sotheby's, 15th Many 1957, lot 21 (as Walter Crane); bought by Agnew, who sold it to Sir John Heathcoat Amory, 3rd Bt (1894 - 1972), with the provenance of W. P. Frith; bequeathed on his death in 1972 to the Knightshayes Garden Trust.
