Summary
A figured walnut, crossbanded and feather-banded escritoire, English, circa 1710. The upper section with a moulded cornice and cushion-moulded frieze drawer, the quarter-veneered fall-front enclosing a fitted interior of eight pigeon holes which conceal hidden drawers within, above two columns of three drawers either side of a central cupboard door opening to a further four smaller drawers, the door itself with a cherub escutcheon, a further drawer and open compartment below flanked by a deep drawer and two drawers, all with ebonised line inlay as well as crossbanding, the writing surface lined with rose coloured velvet, the lower section with deep apron moulding, two short and two long drawers with engraved escutcheons, standing on bracket feet.
