Summary
A cedar or cypress chest, the Azores, circa 1600-50. Incised decoration all over: the sides with stylised flowers, the front with inscriptions, trees and symbols that may represent the Fountain of Youth together with human figures representing a bride and groom. An iron carry handle at either end, and with iron lock.
