Summary
Oil painting on panel, Queen Elizabeth I (1533-1603) by William Faithorne the elder (London c.1616 – London 1691), 1690. A three-quarter-length portrait, facing, in black surcoat with gold braid worn over an embroidered dress and a large ruff and jewelled headdress; her right hand on a table, her left holding a jewelled necklace. She is wearing two pendant jewels of rubies and emeralds set in gold; the larger topped by eagle swoopong on ermine. Originally at Beaurepaire, Hants, home of the Brocas family.

Originally at Beaurepaire, Hampshire, home of the Brocas family; sold at Christie's 10th June 1876, lot 152; 7 gns, Bushby; bought Farhams Estate sale Sotheby's 1950, lot no.888; bought by Michael Henry Glendower Page Croft, 2nd Baron Croft (1916 - 1997); loaned to The National Trust before 1993; accepted by HM Government in Lieu of Inheritance Tax from the estate of Michael Henry Glendower Page Croft and allocated to The National Trust for display at Croft Castle in 2004.
