Summary
German tabernacle clock in gilt brass case, Anonymous, probably Augsburg, c.1600. Three train fusee movement with verge escapement and balance wheel, and alarm (mechanism now missing). The going train is driven by a Fusee, the count-wheel striking and quarter striking, which are nag’s head release, are by going barrel. The movement was originally 6-hour striking but has subsequently been converted to 12 hour striking. Silver dials indicating hours and quarters. Three tier gilt brass clock case with two bells mounted in galleried canopy above. Note: This fine and important clock is one of the most notable in the Trust’s collections. It appears never to have been converted to pendulum control which is a rare survival.
