Summary
An olive, walnut and marquetry bureau, North Italian, circa 1800. Crossbanded and inlaid with sycamore or holly in cartouche-shaped patterns and high-lighted with ebonised mouldings, with a serpentine front and rounded ends below sloping sides and central sloping fall, the fitted interior with six small drawers and a secret compartment within, above a frieze containing lopers with cherub-head pulls and a further three long drawers flanked by cupboards, raised on an ebonised plinth with concealed feet.
Provenance
Gifted to the National Trust in 1987 by Charles Booth and transferred to Berrington Hall in 1988.
