Oil painting on canvas, Mary Ann Pawson Hargrave, Lady Ramsay-Fairfax (m.1868; d.1924), signed and dated in the bottom right corner Fanny Sutherland, 1878. A three-quarter-length portrait of Mary Ann Pawson Hargrave, Lady Ramsay-Fairfax. She is looking directly at the spectator. She is wearing a long green dress with a high neck and white lace detail with bows at the breast, mid-drift, cuffs and lower skirt. She holds her left arm across her stomach with rings visible on one finger. Her left arm is held by her side. Patterned red background. Framed in large carved giltwood frame with picture label ‘Lady Ramsey Fairfax’. Hanging from chains. She was the wife of Sir William George Herbert Taylor Ramsay-Fairfax, 2nd Baronet whom she married in 1868. Fanny Sutherland was a Canadian artist who painted portraits and court scenes. Most notably she painted a watercolour of 'The Queen at Linlithgow' in 1879.
