Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Sir Ewen Cameron, 1st Bt, of Fassfern (1740–1828), by Sir Henry Raeburn RA, circa 1817. A head-and-shoulders portrait, facing the viewer, turned slightly to the right. He is shown as an elderly man with white hair, wearing a brown coat, yellow waistcoat and white stock. Plain dark background. Framed in a deep, giltwood frame of simple design. A plaque in the lower right corner. ‘Sir Ewen Cameron Bart of Fassfern, died 1828 Raeburn’. He was the father of Sir Duncan Cameron, 2nd Bt of Fassfern, Inverness (c. 1775 -1861), grandfather of Christina (1826 - 1898) who married first Alexander Campbell of Monzie and Inverawe (1811 - 1869) and second Henry Spencer Lucy. By descent and bequest to John C. L. Campbell, by 1913; from him to Ada Christina, Lady Ramsay-Fairfax-Lucy (1866–1943), daughter of Henry Spencer Lucy (1830-90) and Christina Cameron Campbell (1826-1898), and wife of Sir Henry Ramsay-Fairfax-Lucy, 3rd Bt. (1870–1944); thence to his sons, the 4th (1896–1965) and 5th (1898–1973) Bts; on loan from Sir Edmund Fairfax-Lucy (b. 1949)
