Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Sir William Ramsay Fairfax, 2nd Bt of Maxton (1831-1902), as a Colonel in the Crimean War by Attilio Baccani (fl.1859 – 1882), circa 1856/59. A three-quarter-length portrait of the eldest son of Sir Henry Fairfax, standing in an interior next to a column, in military clothes (uniform of the 10th Hussars) holding his hat and sword. Framed in a large carved giltwood frame with a plaque (currently difficult to read). Sir William Ramsay Fairfax married Mary Anne Rawson Hargrave, daughter of W J Rawson of Shawdon, Northumberland.
