Summary
A walnut Savonarola chair, Italian, second half of the 19th century. An X framed chair with shaped cresting carved with the mask of a cherub between foliate scrolls above an open back. A red velvet valance is hung from the cresting by metal studs. With slated arms, seat and legs forming the 'X' shape. The ends of the arms are carved with lion masks and the chair features sledge-type feet with paws.
