Summary
A circular occasional table or "guéridon", circa 1830. A circular table top above a walnut baluster-shaped, turned support on a circular foot. This is then raised on a square ebonised base. The circular table top , Italian circa 1800, is scagliola inlaid with malachite. The central square section features five micro-mosaic plaques depicting Ancient Roman monuments (Roman Forum, Pantheon, Arch of Constantin, Coliseum, Temple of Vesta). Surrounding the plaques is a flower pattern, the outer rim features phoenix’s joined together by a garland that also features animal heads. The top of the table is surrounded by a pierced brass gallery. This table is recorded in the Billiard Room in the Charlecote inventory of 1891.
Provenance
Presented to the National Trust by Sir Montgomerie Fairfax-Lucy (1896 – 1965), two years after the death of his father, Sir Henry Ramsay-Fairfax, 3rd Bt (1870 – 1944), with Charlecote Park and its chief contents, in 1946.
