Summary
One of a pair of flintlock holster pistols by William Turvey, London, c1760. Round metal barrel formed in 3 stages each stage separated by a turned ring or moulding, and slightly swamped (flared) at the muzzle. The breech is stamped with proof marks of the London Gunmakers Company and engraved along the top is 'W. TURVEY, LONDON.' Engraved barrel tang. Secured to the stock by two transverse pins.
Provenance
Presented to the National Trust by Sir Montgomerie Fairfax-Lucy (1896 – 1965), two years after the death of his father, Sir Henry Ramsay-Fairfax, 3rd Bt (1870 – 1944), with Charlecote Park and its chief contents, in 1946.
