Full description
The style of this small oval salver with its simple reeded border and bracket feet is typical of waiters, salvers and trays produced in the late 18th century, and was probably made by Timothy Renou’s workshop as a stock item for a retailer. There is no record of Renou’s apprenticeship, but it seems likely that he was descended from an extensive family of Huguenots goldsmiths of the same name, who fled to Britain circa 1685. His mark is usually found on dinner plates, dishes and salvers. Like Paul Storr, he produced silver for Rundell & Bridge, including plates and vegetable dishes for Admiral Lord Nelson’s Copenhagen Service. HERALDRY Lions are one of the most widely used charges in English heraldry. A lion rampant as a crest relates to many families. Jane Ewart, 2025 Heraldry by Gale Glynn
