Summary
Oil painting on panel, The Royal Hunt with the Master of the Royal Buckhounds, Charles F. Davis (c.1788-1866), the artist's brother by Richard Barrett Davis (Watford 1782 – Kensington 1854), remains of signature and date, bottom centre: R.B.Davis 1840. The Royal Buck-hounds; a group of four huntsman, hounds and hunt followers in a clearing in a wood. Charles Davis (c.1788-1866) is the tall rider on the grey hunter, the artist’s brother, who was animal painter to the Queen Victoria. The picture was later exhibited at the Burlington Fine Arts Club in 1934.
Provenance
Bequeathed to the National Trust by Huttleston Rogers Broughton, 1st Lord Fairhaven (1896-1966) with the house and the rest of the contents.
