Portrait miniature, watercolour on ivory, An Unknown Elderly Lady in a Mob-cap whose Initials are E.R. attributed to Richard Cosway RA (Tiverton, Devon 1742 - London 1821). 1780-1785. Oval. Head and shoulders portrait of an elderly lady, facing, head turned slightly to the left, gazing to the left, wearing a grey dress with a low-cut white fichu with modesty lace beneath, white high-crowned, mob cap, single-strand pearl necklet. Brown eyes, grey powdered, shoulder length curled hair, fresh complexion, aged about sixty. Sky background. No.27 in Guide 'A miniature of an old lady with white cap and shawl by Richard Cosway. At back, initials E.R. in seed pearls with hair. Unknown lady'. Catalogue entry 'An elderly lady, circa 1790, attributed to R. Cosway. Head and shoulders, facing, the head turned slightly left, in mob cap, grey dress and white fichu, wearing a close pearl necklace. The initials E.R. in seed pearls at the back the frame. Oval'.
