Summary
Portrait miniature of Lady Jane Grey, wearing bejewelled dress and coif, ermine-bordered cloak about her shoulders. By William Bone formerly attributed to William Essex. Enamel oval in ivory frame. No.3 in Guide 'An enamel of Lady Jane Grey in an ivory frame. This attributed to William Essex, the Elder. There is a replica of it in the South Kensinton Museum. W. Essex was born 1784, died 1869'. Catalogue entry 'Lady Jane Grey, a very fine enamel, by Wm Essex Snr, head and shoulders, facing, in elaborate dress, jewels, and mantle bordered with ermine, oval'.
Provenance
Bequeathed to the National Trust by Huttleston Rogers Broughton, 1st Lord Fairhaven (1896-1966) with the house and the rest of the contents.
