Summary
Portrait miniature of Princess Charlotte by Richard Cosway R.A. 3/4 length, holding a dove in her arms. Oval. Inset in cover of circular tortoiseshell and black enamel snuff-box with gold mounts. Reverse with inscription. No.1 in Guide 'A black enamelled round gold snuff box with an exquisite miniature of HRH the Princess Charlotte, painted by Richard Cosway Esq RA. Engraved inside under the lid 'An original picture of HRH Princess Charlotte painted by Richard Cosway Esq RA in the presence of the Hon Miss Mercer Elphinstone now Countess Flahaut'. The box and picture belonged to His Majesty King George IV'. Catalogue entry 'Princess Charlotte Augusta, daughter of George IV, by Richard Cosway. Half length standing, slightly to right, holding a dove at her breast, in white dress and wearing a coral necklass, oval, set in a tortoiseshell snuff box'.

Bequeathed to the National Trust by Huttleston Rogers Broughton, 1st Lord Fairhaven (1896-1966) with the house and the rest of the contents.
