Summary
Oil painting on panel, Horserace between Mr T. Cosby's 'Copper Captain' and Lord Lichfield's 'Minster', October 1833, by William Shayer the elder (Southampton 1788 – Shirley 1879), signed and dated 1833. Two horses racing almost neck-and-neck, riding to the left, the jockey on the far side in bed and blue and the jockey nearest green and white stripes. The jockey nearest has his right hand raised with his whip. Extensive low-lying view in the background, blue sky with clouds.
Provenance
Bequeathed to the National Trust by Huttleston Rogers Broughton, 1st Lord Fairhaven (1896-1966) with the house and the rest of the contents.
