Summary
Oil painting on panel, Female Nude by a Lake, in the manner of William Etty RA (York 1787 – York 1849). Young female nude, full-length, back to the spectator, reclining on the ground, leaning against a rock which is covered with a red cloth, her right leg is outstretched and her left foot is tucked under her right knee, her left arm rests on the rock and her right arm is raised about her head, her fingers in her hair, obscuring her face. Landscape setting with trees to the left, a lake with two bathers and beyond the lake a woodland with a small amount of sky showing.
Provenance
Bequeathed to the National Trust by Huttleston Rogers Broughton, 1st Lord Fairhaven (1896-1966) with the house and the rest of the contents.
