Summary
Oil on canvas, Landscape with a Pagoda at the Water’s Edge and with Various Boats, anonymous Guangzhou artist, 1840s (previously attributed to William Alexander [1767–1816], 1790s). A pagoda on a rocky eminence just left of centre, surrounded by buildings, trees and vegetation, the sky blue with white clouds, and with several boats in the calm body of water flowing around the eminence. With grateful acknowledgement to Patrick Conner for commenting on this painting and its pair (NT 515543).
Provenance
Bequeathed to the National Trust by Huttleston Rogers Broughton, 1st Lord Fairhaven (1896-1966) with the house and the rest of the contents.
