Caption
Robert Burford set up a panorama in Leicester Square, which became one of the capital's chief attractions. In it he showed scenes of famous events like Queen Victoria's Embarkation at Tréport or historical sites like Pompeii and Athens. He appears to have painted very few scenes in England. This Cambridge view shows Queens' College with the famous Mathematical Bridge leading to Walnut Tree Court in the foreground, and Silver Street bridge behind (in Burford's day this bridge was wooden, it is now stone); the river Cam flows into the Mill Pond beyond.
