Summary
Oil painting on panel, Head of a Goat by Sir Edwin Henry Landseer (London 1802 - London 1873), signed and dated E Landseer RA 1833. Head of a horned, bearded goat, turned to left, browsing on ferns, lightly sketched in at the left. One of many studies of goats that Landseer undertook on his sketching tours in the Scottish Highlands. Label on frame 'Sir Edwin Landseer RA 1802-1873. Exhibited at the Royal Academy 1961'.

Presented by Sir Edwin Landseer to C.R. Leslie RA (1794 - 1859) 1833; C.R. Leslie sale, Foster, 1860; Richard Newsham, Preston; Price sale, Christie's 1895; bequeathed to the National Trust by Huttleston Rogers Broughton, 1st Lord Fairhaven (1896-1966) with the house and the rest of the contents.
