Summary
Cup-hilt rapier, single edged blade, signed Peter TESCH ME FECIT, SOLINGEN, etched with foliage enclosing portrait busts of Emperor Ferdinand and Frederick Henry. Pierced cup, knuckle guard and scroll quillons painted with gold, elongated oval pommel. Probably German, set up in England c.1640. Traditionally once the property of Prince Rupert of the Rhine.
Provenance
Bequeathed to the National Trust by Huttleston Rogers Broughton, 1st Lord Fairhaven (1896-1966) with the house and the rest of the contents.
