Summary
One of a pair of marquetry and parquetry inlaid sabicu boxwood and tulipwood Pettit commodes, Southern Italy, probably Naples, circa 1785 The top inlaid with a parquetry design within multi cross banded borders, with three drawers inlaid with a Greek key frieze and panels depicting ships near shore. The sides inlaid with further sea-scapes. Raised on square section legs inlaid with stop fluting and with applied moulded collars. Brass leaf cast handles

Bequeathed to the National Trust by Huttleston Rogers Broughton, 1st Lord Fairhaven (1896-1966) with the house and the rest of the contents.
