Summary
Ebonised beech, doorstop in the form of a female sphinx with fish tail, probably British (English) School, c. 1700-1750. A doorstop carved from beech in the form of a female sphinx with long flowing hair, lions' paws and the scaled body of a fish, ebonised.
Provenance
Bequeathed to the National Trust by Huttleston Rogers Broughton, 1st Lord Fairhaven (1896-1966) with the house and the rest of the contents.
