Summary
A brass Flemish lantern clock with cherub and shield cresting, concealing large circular bell with brass finial; one weight; on carved wall bracket. Inscribed with the makers name 'Frans Cornelis' on the dial and on the reverse of the frame, 'DS CORN VORN AC 1700'. One of the shields has the date '1676' visible, but this is presumably part of a post-1700 embellishment. The Dutch motto on the two side pediments translates roughly as "Don't worry about me, I won't mind".
Provenance
Shown as being at the Castle in photograph 511941.2.33, which is dated c.1906. Also shown in same location on 511941.2.27 c.1912.
