Summary
Alabaster funerary urn, effigy of deceased on top, scene on front shows journey through the underworld, the right hand figure is that of the god of death pushing the dead lady over the bridge of death. Figure holds either cup of water or a pomegranate. 200 BC (circa). Etruscan.
Provenance
Made circa 200BC. Owned by Sir Arthur Paul Benthall (1902 – 1992). Bequeathed to The National Trust in the will of Sir Arthur Paul Benthall dated 28th July 1983. Accepted for ownership by The National Trust in 1993 following the death of Sir Arthur Paul Benthall in 1992.
