Summary
Portrait miniature, watercolour painting on ivory, Isabella Caroline Clarke Perry Ogilvie, later Mrs William Marshall Ogilvie (b.1792) as a Child by John Bogle (Scotland c.1746 – Glasgow 1804). 1796. Oval. Half-length portrait of a young girl, turned to the left, gazing at the spectator, in a white dress with blue waist-ribbon. Blue eyes, long fair hair, pink complexion. Sky and brown clouds in the background. Reverse with attractive hair aperture. Inscribed - I Bogle Pinxt 1796 (signed and dated right), her name is inscribed on the back in ink. 1796.
Provenance
Painted in 1796. Owned by Sir Arthur Paul Benthall (1902 – 1992). Accepted in lieu of tax by H.M. Government in March 1993 following the death of Sir Arthur Paul Benthall in 1992 and allocated to The National Trust for display at Benthall Hall.
